To finish the semester we were directed to make a clock. We had to use 3 different machines to achieve full points. I decided to use the laser, 3D printer, and the vinyl machines.
What I did first was use the laser to engrave and cut out my 6x6" circular clock. I engraved roman numerals into it that are the numbers on the clock. I used light purple mat-board. It printed in about 20 minutes.
Next I designed my 3D print in inventor and set it up on makerbot. It is a circle an inch deep with walls and a square 2.25x2.25" on the back for the clock mechanism to sit in. I picked purple filament and started the print which took about 9 hours. When the print was done I took off the supports and it was finished.
Finally all I had left to do was use the vinyl machine. I decided to just make a lululemon sticker. I had some difficulty doing this because I turned the computer for the vinyl machine off which means that Wilhauer had to log back on which takes about 15 minutes. And after that I forgot to turn the printer on and sent the print multiple times. So when I turned the printer on it started going crazy and used the whole roll of white vinyl. This was a bad mistake but I feel as though I learned from it.
I then Put the whole clock together and put the clock mechanism in it and im finished.
That concludes my project and I learned a great deal about how using different machines together can achieve great things. And that thats a wrap on a great semester of IDEA.
